Wicked Pissah Y'all
Pinterest…..wut?

What am I missing about Pinterest?

I got the invite.  I actually activated the invite and signed up.  I looked at it, explored it, got bored and closed it.

And there it has sat, collecting virtual dust.

I don’t get it.  I get “how” it works.  I just don’t get “why.”

It’s a virtual representation of the cork board I had in my room when I was in high school.  I spent so much time clipping out pictures from Teen People, Tiger Beat and Cosmo and pinning them to my cork board, hopeful that I could pull off that outfit or somehow bump elbows with Scott Baio and he would fall head over heals in love with me and we would run off to live happily ever after in sunny California.

Now, my cork board would be full of pins from Southern Living, Better Homes and Gardens, Cooking Light, Food & Wine, Bon Appetite, Rachel Ray, Paula Dean, Martha Stewart, Ethan Allen and such as that.  Which is all fine and good……….

except this…….I don’t want to just LOOK at things, I want to KNOW HOW things. If I see a picture of pretty food and I like it enough to pin it……I want the recipe. I want the instructions on how to make that particular craft or DIY home project. In fact, I have my own version of Pinterest…….it’s called a 3 Ring Binder.  When I find a recipe on the internet, I print it out or a project or a recipe I like in a magazine, I clip it out and slip it into clear sheet protectors and add it to my 3 Ring Binder.

I’m sure I could Google my pins but honestly……is it worth that much work?

Is there something I am missing?

Have I reached the amount of “social” type sights my brain can process?

Is looking supposed to be enough?

Am I broken?

Is there more to Pinterest than just looking?

  6. marienotmaria said: It’s a pinboard, but it takes two clicks to get to the recipe or site to purchase. So you are just one more click to what you are looking for.
  7. hungrylikekevin said: I don’t get it either. I took a look around, though, “Huh. I already have a bookmark list,” and never bothered joining. It seems utterly pointless.
